Here is a condensed trip report/itinerary from my recent (5/4/2009 - 5/15/2009) trip to Ireland. Just for background: Solo male age 49. For meals I ate breakfast at each hotel I stayed at and then cheap on the run (fish/chips slice of pizza Subway). Rented the smallest automatic transmission car I could drove about 1300 miles. Flew Aer Lingus from D.C. (Dulles) to Dublin/Shannon and then Shannon/Dublin to N.Y. (JFK). Airfare was about $400 car was about $600. Day 1 Landed at Dublin 4 hour layover then flight to Shannon. In Dublin airport go to the ‘C’ gates (C40 and up) for some solitude if you ever have such a long layover. Got to Shannon picked up my Dan Dooley rental car (good service) and headed to Doolin via the Cliffs of Moher but the Cliffs were so fogged in you could not even see the visitor center parking lot from the road right next to it. Overnight at Daly’s House in Doolin. Weather: Wind and rain. Day 2 Drove around the Burren (geologically interesting) Posted in the Europe forum
